Because I was kindly asked, He is a draft and some pictures of how my midna cloak was made. Not the best technique, was designd almost 3 years ago when I had no sewing skills, but for those aspiring to be midna, hopefully you can take some of the ideas and use in your own. Ok lets see...
My cloak was made from bed sheets because it was cheapest for me and, being silly, I wanted to acomplish the seamless look she had in the game. The only seams incorporated were in her shoulders and the center top of the hood. I have no measurments because it really depends on your size. Mine is too big in the hood and down the back so it bulks up and folds over when I extend my arms.
1.The main body is one piece so if you attempt this design you will have to go the bed sheet rout or make a seam down the center back or something. The notches at the hood and shoulderare (on left side) something i cut for hemming the hood and sewing the sleeve. It was not well planned from the beging, I did not think ahead. The gold line is where i sew on the lining. Then I turned it right side out and sew on the sleeves.
2-2b The sleeves are a big cylinder. sewn at the shoulders then looped around the arm back to the cloak. I used bias tape to seal the cloak, lining, and sleeve together cleanly. The rest of the sleeve( under the armpit) was hand sewn into the lining.
3. The hood is closed by seam at the top. Added touches(found out by experimentation): the white piece of fabric sewn from the hood around the edge of the sleeve. It gives stability and well as connects the two because they are separate pieces. Then there is a strip of bias tape folded in half and sewn. It connects shoulder to shoulder so the weight and be held there and you can take the hood off and show midnas lovely hair withour the cloak falling.
I hope it makes sense. Feel free to ask any questions.
aw thats. I hope. I really think i may be a hard way to go about it but for people trying to do her cloak w/o a pre made pattern it could inspire ideas.
can wait to see it completed
